Dual Credit- Costs and How to Qualify
Graduation Requirements
Registration starts at SJO upon return from Winter Break. Mrs. Rein and Mrs. Butler meet with students during their respective English courses to go over graduation requirements as a whole, credits required for graduation, the menu sheet (required courses and electives) and dual credit information, if it is applicable. Once that process is complete and students have had the time to talk with their parent(s)/guardian, the guidance counselors then return two weeks later to meet with students on an individual, 1-on-1 basis to look at their selections and confirm their choices. It is important to note that with block scheduling, listing three to four alternate courses is very important.
For incoming freshman of the following school year, Mrs. Rein and Mrs. Butler visit PVO and SJO middle school at the end of January/beginning of February to introduce all of the same information, such as graduation requirements, credits required for graduation, the menu sheet (required courses and electives), and to talk about the block schedule. They then return two weeks later to collect the students’ course selections from the school. It is important to note that with block scheduling, listing three to four alternate courses is very important.
Future Freshman Night is going to be held on Wednesday, February 07, 2024 at 6:30 PM at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.
Scheduling
Scheduling begins in January (current in-district freshman in February) when students complete their course registration for the following school year. Throughout the spring semester, the master schedule is then created from scratch for the upcoming school year. Because the schedule is based on student requests, please make sure when filling out the registration form that the classes are chosen based on what the desired courses are. Changing courses once menu sheets are turned in should not be expected as limited space in courses permits movement.
Students in athletics and band are able to waive their physical education requirement for one semester as long as it works within the student schedule. Please keep in mind when choosing this option that waiving the physical education requirement requires the student to sign up for another academic course and increase their workload.
Students will work with guidance to create four-year plans to better map out their classes across all four years. Keep in mind that once a class is taken and credit is earned, it cannot be repeated.
For students who are new to the district, please reach out to Mrs. Butler (butlerk@sjo.k12.il.us) or Mrs. Rein (reint@sjo.k12.il.us) to set up a time to meet and go over the necessary information for your student.
